The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) got a nice present today in the form of the nation’s number one motion picture, National Treasure: Book of Secrets.
The sequel to the 2004 blockbuster, National Treasure, National Treasure: Book of Secrets had a monster weekend, with $45.5 million in sales. Nicolas Cage is once again the leading man in this movie, and in this thriller, Cage’s character, Ben Gates, is in a struggle to clear the name of an ancestor that has been implicated in the murder of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
If the first installment of this series is any indication, Disney could be seeing some pretty massive numbers from this motion picture before it is all said and done. When National Treasure debuted in 2004 the movie raked in $35.1 million and ended up with a total of $173 million at the box office.
Other big winners were Will Smith’s I am Legend, which dropped from the number one slot, but still managed to rake in $34.2 million, and a childhood favorite of mine, Alvin and the Chipmunks which reportedly pulled in $29 million in box office sales.
Of the above three movies, I have only personally seen I’m Legend, which I thought was an amazing movie, and highly advocate to anyone. What about you? Have you seen the new Nicolas Cage movie? Would you advocate it? What other movies would you suggest our BloggingStocks readers try to take in during this holiday season?
Whatever choices you make, be sure to have a happy and most importantly safe holiday season, and best wishes to all.
